CIOB Heritage Delegation

In keeping with our commitment to Continuing Professional Development, Senior Project Manager Arturs Legzdins MCIOB was in Malta last week with the The Chartered Institute of Building as part of the delegation for their first ever international heritage field trip.

Arturs spent 3 days examining important work where conservation meets measures to mitigate climate change. Expert speakers included Dr Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, Rory Cullen FCIOB & Ed Morton as well as field trips to historic gems such as the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta, dating back to the 16th century.

Arturs is now back in the UK and says “I am extremely happy to have had the opportunity to take part in this conference. The format worked well listening to the expert presentations about climate change and how it is affecting our industry coupled by visiting Maltese heritage sites as live case studies.

The discussions involved all stakeholders in the Maltese heritage setting, which provided a full picture of the climate change issues there and the various, but not always obvious aspects. At the same time UK expert presentations provided a broader point for debate between the delegates. It is so important such events continue in the future to ensure honest and continuous discourse concerning climate change and how it is affecting the industry.

I cannot thank the CIOB enough for organising this conference and look forward to welcoming the delegates to London in near future.”
