The National Portrait Gallery

Appointed as Historic Fabric Specialist Contractor on the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the Grade I Listed National Portrait Gallery, our works included complex in-situ modification works to existing stone windows and granite plinths, forming new 4-metre-high doorways and creating the new entrance to the North Façade.

The new entrance doors lead to a generous new entrance hall, where our team brought to life Jamie Fobert Architects’ design of large Portland stone Wainscoting dressings to the walls, stone seating as well as Carlo Scarpa inspired marble terrazzo flooring. All sensitively complement the existing fabrics and architectural elements of the gallery wings. Extensive trials, based on the Purcell specification, were followed by alterations to external hard landscaping; sensitive cleaning and restoration of the stone facades, mosaic, terrazzo flooring as well as letter cutting and gilding to introduce wayfinding.

We are truly grateful to be part of making “The Inspiring People” project a success and are pleased to see the public enjoying the transformation of this iconic building and gallery spaces.
