The Grade II listed facades in this busy, central location needed intervention due to severe deterioration of the fabric. Our team carried out extensive surveys and trials with full technical reports provided to the client. Following pre-decoration clean down, it became apparent that the facades were made up of Portland Limestone and Bath Stone covered in several layers of paint, leaving the stonework unable to breathe. Following Client, Conservation Architect and City of London approvals of our recommendations, full removal of all detrimental paint coverings was undertaken by carefully paint stripping the entire building, followed by full removal of carbon deposits and other soiling using specialist cleaning techniques. Finally, our team carried out masonry repairs and restoration to the stonework (including grotesque re-instatement and ornate detailing) before painting with a breathable, mineral Keim paint providing a sympathetic coating and ensuring future protection of the stonework. Other works included 154 no. timber sash window replacements by our specialist sub-contractors to significantly improve energy efficiency and acoustic performance.
